Abstract
Soil property is the basic parameters for the study of foundation of structure, seepage from embankment, drainage from subsurface soil etc. In this study, soil hydrological properties (grain size analysis, specific gravity, porosity, in-situ moisture content, saturated hydraulic conductivity, soil characteristics curve etc.) have been estimated. Soil samples have been collected at different location in Punpun basin and analyzed in the Laboratory. In-Situ tests have also been carried out using Guelph permeameter for saturated hydraulic conductivity and Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) for moisture content. Based on the field and laboratory tests, the contents of sand, silt and clay ranges from 0 % to 35, 51 % to 87 % and 5.5 % to 27.79 %, respectively. Textural analysis shows that there are mainly four types of soil i.e., silt, silty clay, silty loam and silty clay loam. Specific gravity of the soil ranges from 2.16 to 2.67. The value of saturated hydraulic varies from 2.9× 10^-5 to 2.4× 10^-4 cm/sec. Field capacity and Wilting point lies between 24.49 to 43.50 % and 8.90 % to 26.01 %, respectively. The porosity ranges from 0.4016 to 0.6125. Soil moisture characteristics curves have also been prepared using pressure plate apparatus in the laboratory.
