Abstract
Population growth and urbanization have accelerated the demand for building construction around the globe. Building materials are vital to the construction of buildings. The construction industry uses more than a third of the world's energy. 40% of CO2 emissions come from building construction and usage, 15% of which come from construction material manufacture. More energy, resources, and raw materials are used to fulfil the increasing demands of houses, which leads to environmental degradation and causes health problems. Degradation of the environment and rising levels of greenhouse gas emissions compel communities to find environmentally friendly solutions for building and construction materials. With sustainability, a significant concern in recent decades, the building sector, which causes a large share of annual environmental damage, can contribute to sustainable development by employing more sustainable and green building materials. Green building materials use renewable resources. Green materials are ecologically responsible due to lifecycle impacts. Green construction materials can reduce environmental impacts from extraction, transport, processing, fabrication, installation, reuse, recycling, and disposal. Globally, researchers have made significant efforts to find alternative sustainable building materials and low-tech approaches that result in more sustainable and affordable construction that meets today's comfort requirements. Green building materials can help reach this goal. Choosing construction materials with low environmental impacts helps a nation's sustainable growth. This paper aims to discuss some green materials used in building construction and show how sustainable and green construction materials may reduce environmental degradation and create healthy, environmentally friendly green buildings.
