Abstract
The foundations play an important role in transferring the loads and weights of the superstructure to the subsoil without any soil failure or structural problems as a result of the foundation settlement. The cost of constructing the foundations ranges from 10% to 15% of the project's total cost. Therefore, the selection of the appropriate type of foundation leads to a reduction in project cost and vice versa. There are several foundations ranging from shallow (single, combine, strip, strap, and mat foundations) to deep (monopole, pile group, pier, caisson foundation, etc.). The choice of type of foundation is a necessary process influenced by numerous complex considerations, such as type of applied superstore loading, subsoil condition. It requires careful study due to their differences in quality, performance, and cost. This study suggests a framework for the value engineering (VE) and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) processes of selecting foundations. The framework is based on accepted standard values and expert input.
