Abstract
Due to the enormous amount of activities associated with the construction field and the interchange among these activities, significant impacts undermining the main sustainability pillars (environmental, economic, and social) occur on-site during the construction stage. Hence, achieving sustainable performance during the project’s execution phase is deemed important for contractors to adopt green practices to overcome the negative consequences of the ongoing works. This research identifies the most prevalent factors by which the contractor could achieve the project’s deliverables and fulfill the required environmental goals. Forty indicated factors were derived from a thorough literature review on green practices and grouped into nine categories. These categories are: 1) Solid Waste Management; 2) Water Management; 3) Energy Efficiency; 4) Pollutants Control; 5) Traffic Management; 6) Site Arrangement; 7) Procurement; 8) Awareness Leverage & Education; and 9) Other. Given that this study’s focal point is the environmental dimension of sustainability, other aspects are added due to the interchangeability and interoperability among the three sustainable pillars. Two steps survey was conducted in this research. Firstly, one-to-one interviews with construction industry experts to stand on the consistency of the questionnaire, terminologies, and the potential addition(s) and/or omission(s). Subsequently, a questionnaire survey was distributed to the industry’s parties in Egypt and abroad to stand on the most important factors. Upon completing the questionnaire survey, the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test is applied for the statistical analysis to evaluate the factors based on the survey’s collected replies.
