Abstract
Bridges, such as cable-stayed and suspension bridges, are more sensitive to wind load excitations than other bridges. Accurate wind load calculation is critical during the design of those structures. The dynamic influence of simulated wind loads on steel bridges is studied in this research. Finite element and finite volume models were utilized using ANSYS workbench and computational fluid dynamics, CFD, (CFD is a branch of fluid mechanics used numerically to simulate flow problems through open and around closed structures) to simulate wind flow around bridge structures. The wind-structure interaction is considered in the study. Time history wind speeds were subject to the bridge. Wind loads at different wind speeds passing through the bridge and bridge deformations were calculated using two-way fluid-structure interaction (FSI). The wind pressures at different wind speeds also were extracted. This study facilitates estimating more accurate wind loads on complicated structures to allow for economic and safe design.
