Abstract
A parametric study of Reinforced Concrete T-beam bridge was carried to investigate skew angles effect on static behaviour. The investigated variables of two lanes bridge deck models are skew angle ranging from 0º (non-skewed) to 45º with skew span lengths varying from 10 to 25 meters and two cases of spans continuity (single span or continuous multi-spans). In total of 32 simple and continuous multi-span bridges were subjected to Egyptian design vehicle loads and analyzed using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) method. The finite element analysis results of skewed bridges compered to straight reference bridges to determine the significant aspects in design of skewed bridges. Results of parametric study indicated that longitudinal bending moment and deflections of main beams decrease with increasing of skew angle. While shear forces and torsion were magnified. Moreover, beams reaction values raised with skew angle increase chiefly in obtuse corners. Furthermore, parametric study showed that performance of the skewed bridges depended on their end condition (simple or continuous). Where Reaction values at intermediate supports raised at obtuse and acute sides. In general, this investigation supported Egyptian code of design skew bridges less than 15 degrees as straight bridge decks but with precautions at obtuse corners
